Tamron has just announced the 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD lens for Sony’s APS-C cameras. This is a 25.5-105mm full-frame equivalent lens, which makes it perfect choice for almost any type of photography.

The lens features Vibration Compensation, meaning that it’s optically stabilized. This is great news considering that all cameras in Sony’s APS-C lineup besides A6600 and A6500 lack in-body image stabilization. The 17-70mm f/2.8 also has a Rapid eXtra-silent stepping drive motor that delivers fast and accurate autofocus.
The lens offers maximum magnification of 0.21x, while the minimum focus distance is 19cm or 7.5 inches on the wide end and 39cm or 15.4 inches on the telephoto end.
Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 weighs about 525g or 18.5oz and is weather sealed. It will retail for $799 and should start shipping in mid-January.
