Back in mid-2017, Sony released the 12-24mm f/4 lens (Get it on Amazon), which covers the widest angle among all their full-frame E-mount lenses. It’s pretty sharp and compact for a lens that covers this focal range, but its use is a bit limited due to the f/4 aperture. However, according to SonyAlphaRumors, Sony is working on an f/2.8 G Master lens that will cover the same focal range.
The new lens would be 4mm wider than the current widest Sony FE lens with f/2.8 aperture (16-35mm f/2.8 GM) and 2mm wider than Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 FE.
According to SonyAlphaRumors and their two sources, there is a chance will see the announcement at this year’s Photokina in May. There’s no info on the price just yet, but lenses such as this one generally do not come cheap.
