Earlier today, Sony has introduced a new full-frame E-mount lens – the 20mm f/1.8 G. This ultra-wide-angle prime lens weighs just 13.2 oz or 373 grams and is even smaller than the FE 24mm f/1.4 GM.
The 20mm f/1.8 is a great option for landscape photography, as well as low-light shooting and astrophotography because of its f/1.8 maximum aperture. The lens features nine aperture blades that provide circular and smooth bokeh. The autofocus is silent, fast and accurate.
While this isn’t a macro lens, it has a minimum focus distance of 7.5″ or 19 cm, allowing for 0.22x reproduction. The aperture ring is very useful and can be de-clicked for video shooting purposes. The lens also features an AF/MF switch and a focus hold button.
Just like the 24mm f/1.4 GM, this lens is dust and moisture resistant and sports a 67mm filter thread. Sony 20mm f/1.8 G will retail for $900 and should go on sale in March.
