Canon Releases EOS R5, EOS R6 and 4 RF Lenses

It’s been a huge day for Canon, as they’ve finally released the long rumored EOS R5 and its little brother EOS R6.

The EOS R5 is Canon’s brand new high-end mirrorless offering for professionals that comes with a rumored 45MP full-frame sensor, 8K video recording, 4K recording at up to 120 fps, 5-axis in-body image stabilization, high-resolution EVF and much more!

The EOS R6 is geared towards enthusiasts and it sports a 20MP full-frame sensor, 4K video recording at up to 60 fps, 1080p recording at up to 120 fps, dual UHS-II card slots and more.

Both cameras offer 12 fps burst shooting with the mechanical shutter and 20 fps with the electronic shutter.

Along with these cameras, Canon also released four very interesting RF lenses. The first is a very useful 85mm lens with macro capabilities – the RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM. It promises beautiful bokeh at f/2, optical image stabilization up to five stops and 0.5x macro capabilities.

Canon also released two very unique lenses – the RF 600mm IS STM and RF 800mm f/11 IS STM. These super telephoto prime lenses are something we haven’t really seen from other manufacturers. They are quite compact, lightweight and affordable, thus making super telephoto photography available to a broader population.

Finally, Canon released the RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM lens, a versatile super telephoto zoom lens that will surely find itself in the camera bags of many photographers. It is relatively compact with fast, accurate and silent autofocus thanks to two Nano USM motors. The lens also promises up to 5 stops of image stabilization.

The brand new EOS R5 is going to be available at the end of July and will retail for $3,899 (for the body only), while the EOS R6 will cost $2,499 and should be released by the end of August.

The RF 85mm f/2 Macro will be available at the end of October for $599. Two ultra wide angle primes will start shipping at the end of July for $699 (RF 600mm) and $899 (RF 800mm), while the RF 100-500mm is going to start shipping in September for an estimated retail price of $2,699.
