Canon has just announced the development of its new flagship RF-mount mirrorless camera – the EOS R5. The company is claiming it’s going to be the most advanced mirrorless camera on the market and some of the specs look really impressive. Namely, it is capable of recording 8K videos and supports 20 fps maximum burst shooting in stills mode when using silent shutter and 12 fps with the mechanical shutter.
Canon didn’t provide a lot of additional specs for the camera, but it will feature a completely new sensor, likely around 40MP, which is necessary for 8K video recording. EOS R5 will also be the first Canon camera to come with IBIS (in-body image stabilization). The camera is also expected to have two memory card slots.
Besides the EOS R5, Canon is also working on 7 new RF lenses, including the RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM and RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM.
There is no information about the release date or pricing at the moment, but the EOS R5 will be on display at the 2020 WPPI Show (February 25-27) in Las Vegas.
