If you’re looking for the best portrait lens for Sony APS-C mirrorless cameras with E-mount (Sony A6600, A6500, A6400, A6300, A6100, A6000 etc.), you’re at the right spot. These are our favorite choices:
Best Choice – Sigma E 56mm f/1.4
If you plan on shooting portraits with your Sony E-mount camera, there’s no better lens to invest in than the Sigma 56mm f/1.4 (85mm full-frame equivalent lens). There’s not a lot to say about this Sigma lens, it’s easily worth more than it sells for. It is compact, lightweight, and surprisingly sharp for the price, with very good performance even wide open.
Thanks to the wide f/1.4 maximum aperture, this lens is great for shooting in low-light conditions, even if you don’t use it on a camera equipped with IBIS (in-body image stabilization). Of course, this also helps achieve that buttery-smooth bokeh that everyone likes to see in portraits. There’s no doubt this is one of the best E-mount lenses in terms of value!
Option #2 – Sony Zeiss Sonnar FE 55mm f/1.8
We generally don’t suggest buying FE (full-frame E-mount) lenses for Sony APS-C cameras, but this is one of the rare times we’ll make an exception. This 82.5mm-equivalent lens is super sharp even wide open. The autofocus performance is great and the lens is silent. The added benefit of using this lens on an APS-C camera is the fact that there won’t be any vignetting, even at f/1.8.
While it is quite expensive, this is simply one of the best lenses in Sony’s ecosystem and since it’s a full-frame lens, you’ll be able to use it if you decide to switch to a full-frame camera one day.
