While the EOS RP is somewhat limited when it comes to 4K video recording (unfortunate lack of Dual Pixel Autofocus while recording 4K), it shoots great 1080p and its AF is amazing in that resolution. Thanks to that and the fact that it has a fully articulating screen, it is an excellent choice for videographers. However, if you plan on shooting serious video with the Canon EOS RP, we suggest investing in a good external microphone as well. After all, good audio is one of the most important aspects of a quality video. Here are some of the best mics for Canon EOS RP.

Best Microphone for Canon EOS RP
Below, we’ll list five of our favorite mics for Canon RP, sorted by price from most to least expensive. This is one of the lightest full-frame mirrorless cameras on the market, and if you plan on using it with lightweight lenses and want to keep the compact form fact, we suggest going with one of the last two microphones on the list. However, if quality audio is your main priority and you don’t mind paying a little extra, go with one of the first two microphones on the list.
Rode VideoMic Pro+
The latest and greatest mic in Rode’s lineup has many features like a built-in rechargeable battery, auto on/off function and buttons on the back of the mic for easy control. The older edition of this mic (without the +) doesn’t have these features, but sound-wise these two microphones are basically identical. Some people really enjoy the pronounced low end on VideoMic Pro microphones, while others prefer more balanced microphones like the one we’re going to talk about in the next paragraph.

Deity V-Mic D3 Pro
Although this microphone isn’t on the market for a long time, it is an excellent choice that is about $100 cheaper than VideoMic Pro+. It also has a built-in rechargeable battery, as well as a gain knob on the back. Sound quality is great for its price point and the low end is definitely less pronounced than on the previously mentioned microphone.

Rode VideoMic Pro
Essentially, this microphone is almost identical to Rode VideoMic Pro+ when we’re talking about sound quality. However, it does lack all extra features and buttons. It also doesn’t come with a rechargeable battery and is instead powered by a single 9V battery. With that said it is $100 cheaper than the + version.

Deity V-Mic D3
This mic offers very similar quality to the D3 Pro, but it is more affordable, weighs less, but also comes with fewer features. There’s no rechargeable battery (it is powered by a single AAA battery) or the gain knob on the back. That being said, we believe this microphone offers a lot of value for the price and if you don’t want to spend a lot of money on an external microphone – this is the best mic for the Canon RP.

If you’re all about portability and need the smallest external mic for your EOS RP camera, this is the one for you. It works without batteries because it’s powered by the camera. Unsurprisingly, the sound quality is not exactly at the level of previously mentioned microphones, but for its price and size, it is a decent option!
