If you’re looking for the best budget portrait lens for Nikon Z mirrorless cameras (Nikon Z6, Z7 etc.), you’re at the right spot. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of choices when it comes to budget portrait lenses for these cameras, but here’s our favorite option:
Best Choice – Nikon Z 50mm f/1.8 S
Nikon’s Z mount is still pretty young, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that there’s not a lot of options (especially cheap ones) for portrait photography just yet. However, Nikon offers one of the best 50mm f/1.8 lenses out there. While it’s more expensive than your average nifty fifty, it’s an excellent performer. The f/1.8 aperture is very helpful in low-light situations and, of course, helps with subject separation.
This lens may not be as amazing for portraits like Nikon’s 85mm f/1.8 S; however, it’s cheaper and even has some advantages. For example, wider angle is helpful for environmental portraiture or when you’re working in tight spaces. The bokeh, although subjective, is also very good on the Z 50mm f/1.8 S.
