Best Budget Portrait Lens for Micro 4/3 Mirrorless Cameras

If you’re looking for the best budget portrait lens for Panasonic and Olympus micro 4/3 mirrorless cameras (Panasonic GH5, G9, G95, Olympus E-M1 Mark III, E-M5 Mark III etc.), you’re at the right spot. As you might know, certain lenses may offer an additional feature or two when both camera body and lens are made by the same company. Better image stabilization is one of the best example, but this only applies to lenses that are optically stabilized. Otherwise, all micro 4/3 lenses will work on any micro 4/3 mirrorless camera. With that said, here are our favorite budget portrait lenses for micro 4/3 cameras:

Best Choice – Sigma 56mm f/1.4

This Sigma lens is very popular among Sony and Canon APS-C shooters and for a good reason – it’s an incredible lens that offers a lot of value for its price. Now it’s offered in the micro 4/3 mount as well, where it acts like a 112mm full-frame equivalent lens. This makes it great for portraits, especially outdoors where you are not limited by the space.

In smaller rooms, it may be a bit difficult to use Sigma 56mm f/1.2 due to the longer focal length. That’s the only con of this lens, in our opinion. It’s affordable, compact and sharp, even wide open. The bokeh is beautiful and smooth, just like you’d want from a portrait lens. Overall, this lens comes highly recommended.

Option #2 – Panasonic Lumix 42.5mm f/1.7

If you need a lens with a slightly shorter focal length that’s still affordable and compact, you simply can’t go wrong with Panasonic’s 42.5mm f/1.7. The lens is extremely lightweight and delivers excellent performance throughout the aperture range. It also has decent bokeh, although we’d like if it was a bit smoother.

Sure, you may not be able to get as much subject separation with an f/1.7 lens as you would with the aforementioned Sigma model, but you can still take great portrait shots with this lens. Plus, thanks to its 85mm full-frame equivalent focal length and minimum focusing distance of 31 cm, it will be easier to work with it in smaller spaces. Finally, we should mention that this lens has optical image and excellent autofocus performance.
