If you’re looking for the best budget portrait lens for Canon APS-C mirrorless cameras with EF-M mount (EOS M6 Mark II, EOS M5, EOS M50, EOS M200 etc.), you’re at the right spot. This is our favorite options:
Best Choice – Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN for EF-M
Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of budget portrait lens options for the EF-M. Canon’s EF-M 32mm f/1.4 is amazing, but it is also pricey for most people who opt for EOS M cameras. Thankfully, Sigma has a very solid alternative in the form of their 30mm f/1.4 DC DN lens. This lens was originally released for Sony’s E-mount and it is one of the best selling lenses for that mount, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that Sigma released an EF-M version as well.
Some people may find this 48mm full-frame equivalent lens a bit to wide for portraiture but you can certainly take some amazing portrait photos with it (especially environmental portraits). Of course, the bright f/1.4 aperture and smooth bokeh definitely help with that. We should also note that Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN is quite sharp, although not as razor sharp as Canon’s 32mm f/1.4 EF-M lens. However, you’ll save quite a bit of money by getting this lens and the image quality it delivers is quite good.
