If you’re searching for the best action and/or wildlife lens for Canon APS-C mirrorless cameras with EF-M mount (EOS M6 Mark II, EOS M5, EOS M50, EOS M200 etc.), you’re at the right spot. Here is our favorite option:
Best Choice – Canon EF-M 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM
Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of choices when it comes to telephoto EF-M lenses. The best option is Canon’s very own EF-M 55-200mm f/3.5-5.6 lens but let’s get one thing out of the way from the start – this is a lens for enthusiasts and you can’t expect to get professional shots, especially when it comes to action and sports photography. Of course, if you need high-quality action/sports photos, you could always mount a professional EF 70-200mm f/2.8 lens using an EF to EF-M adapter but we like to focus on native lenses in our guides.
The EF-M 55-200mm lens offers 88-320mm full-frame equivalent range and it is actually one of the lightest APS-C telephoto lenses that cover such a big focal range. The lens will struggle a bit in low-light conditions due to its relatively slow aperture. With that in mind, you won’t have a lot of problems taking wildlife photos (for example) during the day. It also features optical image stabilization, which definitely helps you take sharper handheld shots. Overall, we think this is a quite decent telephoto lens, especially when you consider its compact size and affordable price.
