Best Accessories for Canon EOS RP

The EOS RP is the company’s second full-frame mirrorless body, and it seems Canon decided to make it for the masses as it’s very affordable. It has the same 26MP sensor found on the 6D Mark II. While Canon RP certainly has fewer features than its bigger brother – the EOS R, it is extremely light, making it a great choice for travel when paired with some lighter lenses (for example Canon RF 35mm f/1.8).

Besides being a pretty solid stills camera, the RP is also decent for video, although it has some limitations (it can record 4K video, but doesn’t use Dual Pixel AF in 4K). That being said, it’s a solid camera for the money and if you have it, or you’re looking to buy one in the near future, chances are you’re going to need some extra gear. Here are some of the best accessories for Canon EOS RP.

Best Battery for Canon EOS RP

For power, the EOS RP relies on Canon LP-E17 battery with 1040 mAh capacity, which is one of the reasons why the camera is so lightweight. As you might expect, one of these batteries won’t get you very far, so our suggestion would be to pick up at least one spare battery for your camera.

Best SD Memory Cards for Canon EOS RP

In case you haven’t checked out our article on the best SD cards for Canon EOS RP, feel free to do it. In short – this camera has one SD card slot that supports UHS-II cards, although there’s no real need for these speedy cards like on the EOS R. If you want to future proof your purchase we’d still go with a UHS-II card, but if you want to save some money definitely go with UHS-I, as there won’t be any major differences in performance.

Microphones and Audio

The EOS RP is a solid camera for video, especially if you’re going to be using it in 1080p. The camera has a fully-articulating screen, which makes it great for filming yourself and shooting YouTube videos, for example. However, if you’re serious about creating good quality videos, you shouldn’t be using the built-in microphone. Depending on your needs, we’d go with one of these two microphones:

Rode VideoMic NTG (great performance and features) – Amazon
Rode Video Micro (small and light) – Amazon

Best Camera Straps for Canon EOS RP

There are many choices when it comes to camera straps, but our favorites are made by Peak Design. Since the RP is quite lightweight, our choice would be Slide Lite strap that can be used as a shoulder strap, neck strap or sling strap. Some people prefer wrist straps and if you’re one of them, you’ll be happy to hear that Peak Design makes a pretty good one as well.

Best Camera Bags for Canon EOS RP

Just like with camera straps, there are numerous bags on the market, but our top choices would be bags from Peak Design and Manfrotto. If you have a bigger budget, we’d go with a Peak Design Everyday Backpack V2. It’s well made, durable and has a lot of space. There are two versions of this backpack – 20L and 30L, but we believe 20L should be enough for most people. That is unless you’re planning to bring many heavy lenses.

If you’re working with a tighter budget, Manfrotto Advanced² Active Backpack may be the one for you. Once again, this backpack comes in two different sizes. The build quality is very solid, but the bag has less space than Everyday Backpack from Peak Design. However, these backpacks are undoubtedly more affordable.

And finally, if backpacks are not your thing or you simply plan on carrying around your Canon EOS RP with one or two smaller lenses, perhaps a sling bag like the Peak Design Everday Sling 5L is what you’re looking for.

Best Tripods for Canon EOS RP

The EOS RP is very light and portable and unless you plan on using it with extremely heavy lenses like Canon RF 28-70mm f/2 for example, it makes sense to pair it with a light tripod. Here are two of our favorites:

Manfrotto Befree Advanced Travel Tripod with Ball Head – Amazon
Sirui T-005X Aluminum Tripod with C-10S Ball Head – Amazon

Regular tripods are too big for you? These two tiny tripods can be a good replacement if you’re using small lenses, and they are very easy to carry around pretty much anywhere:

Pedco UltraPod – Amazon

Cleaning Accessories

Every photographer should have things like lens wipes or air blowers in their bag and if you don’t own some of these essentials, we suggest getting them now.
