Zeiss announced a new lens, the Batis 40mm f/2 for the Sony E-mount mirrorless system, at the Photokina press event in Cologne, Germany. This is the fifth in Zeiss’ Batis lineup, that now consists of 18mm, 25mm, 40mm, 85mm and 135mm lenses.
Just like other lenses in the Batis lineup, the 40mm f/2 features an OLED display that can show the depth of field and distance markers. It is also weather and dust sealed. The lens weighs 0.80 pounds (361 grams) and sports a 67mm filter thread.
The lens can also take close-up shots, since the minimum focusing distance is just 9.45 inches (24 cm) and has a 1:3.3 reproduction ratio. This means it is pretty versatile and can be used for a variety of situations.
The Zeiss Batis 40mm f/2 lens is going to retail for $1,299, but the release date is yet to be determined.
