Sony today announced the Sony FE 24mm f/1.4 GM lens for its E-mount mirrorless cameras. The new lens is surprisingly compact and features a lightweight and weather-sealed design with a filter diameter of 67mm. It measures just 2.97 x 3.64 inches (75.4 x 92.4 mm) and weighs only 15.70 oz (445 grams), making it the lightest lens among the competition. On average, it is about 200 grams lighter than comparable lenses from Canon and Nikon.
The FE 24mm f/1.4 GM is Sony’s eighth lens in the company’s high-end G Master lineup, which was missing a fast wide-angle prime until now. The lens has 13 elements in 10 groups, and features 11 aperture blades. The minimum focusing distance is 9.45 inches (24 cm).
The FE 24mm f/1.4 GM is very sharp, fast, compact and the bokeh looks great, especially for a wide-angle lens. It will start shipping in October, with the retail price of $1,399.
